Why I Choose Pinterest to Grow My Blog Traffic
When I started this blog over a year ago, I started creating SEO-optimized content for my blog and waited for visitors to come and read.
But can you guess what happened?
All I heard were ‘crickets’, and was getting very few visitors.
This is because it takes a long time for your posts to get indexed and rank on Google, especially with a new blog.
This made me think about how I can attract my target audience to my blog.
This was the time when I realized that I should use Pinterest to drive traffic to my blog.
I knew about Pinterest way before I created this blog. I have always loved using it for ideas and inspiration.
I have also used Pinterest to drive traffic to my first-ever blog 7 to 8 years ago (that story some other day).
So, I started pinning on Pinterest and after some time I was able to attract lots of Pinterest traffic to my blog.
The best part was that over 90% of my blog traffic was from tier 1 countries like the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

My Pinterest Case Study to Grow My Blog Traffic
Let’s dig in and find out my complete process of setting up a Pinterest profile, optimizing it, and driving traffic to my blog.
How I Started….
Fortunately, I had already created a Pinterest account when I started my blog. This way I was able to acquire the Pinterest name same as my blog name.
But I wasn’t doing much on this account, other than repinning fellow bloggers’ content.
But once I decided that I had to use Pinterest to drive traffic to my blog I started making some changes.
Pinterest Bio
I optimized my Pinterest bio. This was a very important and crucial step. I tried to include my main Pinterest keywords in my bio and tell my target audience what it is for them in my Pinterest account.
Profile Picture and Cover Photo
I added a profile picture to my Pinterest account. I choose to use my website logo as my profile picture.
I also added a Pinterest cover photo to give my account a more customized look and tell my audience about my niche.
Claimed My Website
One of the most important things that I did was to claim my website. It was a very crucial step to optimize my Pinterest profile.
Claiming a website helps to track all the pins that are saved from your website and links your Pinterest profile to all the pins saved from your website.
Started Pinning
I started pinning on my Pinterest account in June 2023. Initially, as my blog was new and I didn’t have enough content I pinned one or twice a week.
Then in the next couple of months, as my blog content increased, I started pinning one pin a day.
For the first three months, my Pinterest analytics were like this:
My Pinterest impressions were over 10k. I got 76 outbound clicks and 87 saves.
Then for the next three months (Sep to Nov 2023), I published more content on my blog. This meant I had more content to pin on Pinterest.
I started pinning two to three pins a day consistently on Pinterest. This strategy showed improvement in my Pinterest analytics.
For the months of Sep to Nov 2023, my analytics showed improvement.
My Pinterest impressions went up to 16.96K, 182 outbound clicks, and 143 saves.
These stats were 72%, 139%, and 64% more than the preceding three months respectively.
This meant my pinning strategy and consistency were paying off.
Things got more exciting in the next three months.
As I had much more content on my blog I started pinning five times a day.
I was pinning at different times considering when my audience was mostly active.
My analytic report for these three months thrilled me.
My Pinterest impressions increased up to 162.62K, outbound clicks 3.29K, and saves 1.74K.
These were 859%, 1709 %, and 1.74% more than the previous three months respectively.
This was a great win for me. My strategy was showing results and my blog traffic was increasing.
Following is a graph from my Google Analytics for the month of Dec 2023 to Feb 2024. It shows that my blog traffic started to increase in mid-January and continued to increase and then spiked by the end of February.
Most of this traffic was from Pinterest, as shown below.
In this graph, organic social traffic is the traffic from Pinterest, as I was not using any other social media platform.
The traffic source named ‘Direct’ is also mostly from Pinterest. Pinterest traffic is sometimes shown as direct traffic in Google Analytics.
Due to this increase in blog traffic, I was able to apply to an ad network and monetize my blog.
How I Got Over 500K Pinterest Impressions and 15K Outbound Clicks in a Month
Getting over 500K Pinterest impressions and 15k outbound clicks may not be big numbers for many.
But considering my niche they are good numbers.

Now it has been just over a year that I have been using Pinterest.
My Pinterest analytics for the last 30 days are shown here.
In the last 60 days, I got 547.54K Impressions, 15.18K outbound clicks, and 5.4K saves.
These are 66%, 115%, and 59% more than the previous 30 days period respectively.
My Google Analytics shows that I received about 10K users in the last 30 days.
The majority of this traffic was from Pinterest as shown in the graphs below.
And the page views that I got in the last 30 days are about 15K.
Now, in this Pinterest case study, I will share my Pinterest strategy with you that helped me get to these numbers.
Strategies That Helped Me Increase Pinterest Blog Traffic
Here are the important components of my Pinterest strategy that helped me increase my Pinterest blog traffic.
Optimizing Pinterest Profile
The first and foremost component of my Pinterest strategy was to optimize my Pinterest business account.
It includes having a good profile name, profile picture, and cover photo.
I wrote well well-optimized Pinterest bio including relevant keywords.
I created Pinterest boards, properly named them, and wrote SEO-optimized board descriptions for each one of them.

Keyword Research

Optimizing Pin Design
I designed aesthetically appealing and eye-catching Pinterest pin designs.
I created different pin designs for all of my blog posts and analyzed what types of pins were getting more traction. Then I created more pins similar to those that were getting engagement and clicks.

Engaging Pin Titles, Description and Calls to Action
I wrote an engaging and optimized pin title and description for each of my pins. I included Pinterest keywords related to my niche in the pin description.
I also tried to add a compelling and intriguing call to action in my pin description.
Pinning Consistently
The most rewarding action was to pin consistently. Ever since I started pinning on this account, I maintained consistency and it helped me increase my Pinterest blog traffic.
For the last 9 months, I have tried to pin 4 to 5 times a day. It was not possible for me to manually pin 5 pins a day at different times when my audience was active so I scheduled them.
I used the Pinterest native scheduler to schedule my pins for the next 30 days. At this time it allows to pin 100 pins for 30 days.
I scheduled my pins to be posted at different times during the day depending upon when my audience was active.

Tracking My Pinterest Analytics
The next thing that helped me a lot was my Pinterest analytics. I analyzed them regularly to see if my strategy was working or not and then I made the necessary changes if required.
It helped me analyze which types of pins are getting more outbound clicks and saves.
It also helped me find the best-performing Pinterest boards on my account.
Results of My Pinterest Strategies
The main results that I achieved with my Pinterest strategy are that my Pinterest impressions, saves, and outbound clicks considerably increased.
My Pinterest followers are increasing daily.
My blog traffic from Pinterest significantly increased and I was able to monetize my blog traffic with ads.
What I Learned
Important things that I learned during all this time are that organic Pinterest growth takes time, especially when you start from scratch.
Pinterest algorithm requires time to understand your account and niche and then it shows it to your target audience.
Another thing that I learned is pinning consistently is very important for Pinterest’s growth. No matter if you pin one pin a day or five pins a day. For visible results, you need to do this consistently for at least 3 to 4 months and then you will be able to decide whether your strategy is working for you or not. If necessary, make some changes and keep pinning consistently.
So, patience and consistency are the keys to success on Pinterest.
